Taking a good picture

How to take a good picture of a tiger mosquito :

  1. Preferably, take a photo of the live mosquito resting on the wall, object or plant (i.e. from above). If this is not possible :

    • You can also catch the mosquito alive. Put it in a jar then in the refrigerator for around ten minutes. After that, the mosquito will be stunned and easy to handle.
    • Be careful not to hit or crush the mosquito! A light tap with your hand or a cloth will make it immobile.
    • If it is dead, grasp the mosquito's legs between two fingers so that its back and hind legs, if any, are visible and take a photo from above.

  2. In your photo, be sure to include the following important features (take multiple photos, changing the camera angle if necessary) :
    • The top of the mosquito, specifically including the back.
    • The hind legs of the mosquito (to the end).
    • The top of the mosquito's head.

  3. Make sure you have good lightning (using a flash or a lamp) so that the colors/patterns are clearly visible in your photo.

  4. Make sure the mosquito takes up most of the photo when you upload it (if necessary, crop it).
